How to Make Your Own Tamper: A VIDEO Guide

Share:

Want to make a tamper? You’ll need some solid DIY skills and a lot of equipment, but you’ll end up with your very own beautiful piece of coffee equipment. Safe to say, you’ll never want to buy a factory-made one again.

David Chile films himself making a tamper from scratch, from cutting the metal to sanding the wood. It’s an act of true dedication.

You can also get creative with your handles: Prima Coffee take inspiration from tobacco pipes, and even borrow the wood-shaping methods used for pipes. In doing so, they’ve created one very stylish series.

Remember, though, that having a good tamper is essential for proper extraction and for health and safety. You want to make sure you can use it consistently, that it doesn’t strain your wrist, and that it’s comfortable to use.

Making your own is a great way to customise a tamper to your exact requirements – but if you’re not good at DIY, you might want to invest in one that someone else has made. Of course, you can still make your own as well. Just keep it for decoration and special occasions, and use the store-bought one for everyday tamping!
