Is Sand The Key to Blow-You-Away Turkish Coffee? A VIDEO Exploration

Turkish coffee might not be exactly what specialty coffee drinkers are used to, but there’s no denying that this drink is something special. A sweet, full-bodied, dark brew that’s been made for centuries, consuming it is a one-of-a-kind social ritual.

But even though the recipe’s been honed over the ages, you can still find variations. And for this particular street vendor, the best Turkish coffee is made using sand. Yes, you read that right.

Although using sand to conduct heat may look unconventional to us, it’s one of several traditional brewing methods for Turkish coffee. Just be careful, because that sand can burn.
